On April 7th, 2017, Capital GMC Buick Cadillac received four awards from General Motors Canada: Mark of Excellence.
GM Mark of Excellence
#1 New & Pre-Owned Retailer
#1 Certified Pre-Owned Retailer
President’s Club Award
Top 16 in 16 Award
Obviously, the first two awards are self-explanatory, but the other two are not. The GM President’s Club award is a new distinction that recognizes the overall performance of a dealership on slightly more subjective grounds. Meanwhile, the Top 16 in 16 award recognizes the highest new vehicle sales volume in a given year.
Executives from GM Canada, including President Steve Carlisle, were on hand to personally congratulate the team on becoming the first ever Canadian dealership to receive all of GM’s awards of excellence in the same year.
Capital Auto Group President Bruce Axelson said,
“I think what’s most important is the staff we have and how they respect the investment and time of the customer, our staff all does that. They understand buying a car or servicing a car costs a lot of money, and we have always tried to be very respectful of that. The other benefit we enjoy is that we get lots of referrals and repeat customers, so that’s an endorsement of how we do things. People wouldn’t come back unless they felt safe with how we do things.”
The Mark of Excellence recognitions from GM’s head office are not the only awards the dealership has received this year. At the start of 2017, DealerRater named Capital GMC Buick Cadillac Saskatchewan Dealer of the Year for each of the three brands, and Canadian Dealer of the year for GMC. DealerRater awards are unique in that they are given out based on the feedback of actual customers. Consequently, they’re a testament to the great relationship between Capital GMC Buick Cadillac and its customers.
What It Means for You

We’re especially proud of our DealerRater awards because they’re based on the feedback of real customers. Through every step of the car-buying process, no one knows us better than you, our customer! So, there is no one whose feedback we value more. We always welcome feedback and use it to continually improve our service.
It doesn’t hurt that we sell vehicles we believe in. GMC’s lineup has the dependability and performance to satisfy any professional-grade task. Buick and Cadillac, meanwhile, have literally hundreds of years of combined experience in the auto industry. The Buick lineup exudes sophistication, while Cadillac vehicles are the proven kings of the road. Whether you prioritize fuel economy, dependability, speed, or style (or all of the above), you’ll find the right vehicle in our inventory.
Moving forward, we’ll continue working hard to provide our customers with the best possible experience. We’re always proud of our awards, but we place greater value in serving the people of our community to the best of our ability.
The only premium midsize truck, has also been named the Best Midsize Truck of 2016 overall by Cars.com. To determine their winner, Cars editors ran five pickups through their paces to test an array of attributes. The vehicles they tested were the 2016 GMC Canyon, 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, 2017 Honda Ridgeline, 2016 Toyota Tacoma and 2016 Nissan Frontier. As you can see in the chart below, despite not winning the most categories, the Canyon won the most points overall.
Cars editors named the Canyon the lightest of the trucks tested. At the same time, it had the largest maximum payload and tow rating. Despite the power and the light frame, the Canyon remains comfortable and quiet. “The GMC’s low road and wind noise rivals the Honda and is more impressive considering the Canyon is a traditional body-on-frame truck,” said Joe Bruzek, senior road test editor.
Despite not winning the most categories, the Canyon earned the most overall points. Consequently, Cars named it the Best Midsize Truck. That’s because it performed generally well in every tested category. The Ridgeline, on the other hand, won an impressive number of categories, but it lost a few categories badly. Some drivers might prefer specific strengths and weaknesses. But, when you think about it, most drivers of midsize trucks need good balance. Fuel economy and maneuverability are paramount, but so is towing power. That’s not a natural combination of traits, so midsize pickups must be flexible. Therefore, most drivers will gravitate toward one that performs well in every situation.
The GMC Canyon has a standard 4-cylinder gasoline engine that can be upgraded to Duramax 2.8L turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine. It also comes with Tow/Haul Mode, Hill Start Assist, and StabiliTrak® with Traction Control. While the result would make the Canyon sound like any half-ton workhorse, that’s not really the case. GMC’s midsize combines power with impressive maneuverability and luxury details. Being the first smart-sized luxury pickup, means you get both power, comfort, and maneuverability: no compromise.
The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada has named the Buick LaCrosse “Best New Large Premium Car.” The winner was determined by the average score of 70 top automotive journalists in Canada. They convene in Clarington annually for a four-day test driving event. To those who’ve driven the LaCrosse, the win shouldn’t be a great surprise.
Buick’s Canadian brand director, Mike Speranzini, responded by saying, “Thanks AJAC, we’ve got our happy socks on.” The playful response maybe undercuts the real excitement Buick is feeling for the recognition. That’s because the company is in the midst of overhauling its lineup. The objective is to engage a generation of drivers who see Buick as catering toa more “mature” audience… Old people. If they continue to make vehicle’s like the 2017 LaCrosse, that won’t be a problem for long. There are many reasons the LaCrosse received its award. But, for Speranzini, the LaCrosse’s recognition comes down to “premium styling, quietness and connectivity.”
It’s hard to argue with the first point. After all, the LaCrosse was influenced by Buick’s stunning Avenir concept car. You can see the family resemblance in the LaCrosse’s darkened waterfall grill, metallic side accents, and hood contours.
As for quietness, the LaCrosse once again stands out. QuietTuningTM and ultra-dissipative acoustic materials dampen the engine and the roar of the road. Active Noise Cancellation monitors the sound of the engine and emits negative ways to cancel it out.
It’s Fun to Drive, Too
A standard 3.6L V6 Engine with variable valve timing and direct injection gives the LaCrosse more than enough power underfoot. At the same time, the Stabilitrak® control system smooths the rough edges of the road. When engaged, the playfully stiff “Sport Mode” increases responsiveness and the feel of the throttle.
